I can say without fear of equivocation that the Tributo Alvaro is one of the most attractive cigars I have had the pleasure of laying my eyes on. The oily chocolate brown wrapper looks delicious. There are very few veins that are noticeable, and no major flaws are to be found. The two decorative bands accentuate the color of the wrapper perfectly with their yellow, white, and gold color schemes. The band at the foot shows the Tribute name, while the one near the head displays the Quesada logo. The cigar feels firm to the touch and is silky smooth. The pre-light aroma reminds me of mild tobacco, while the cold taste is woody.

As good as the Quesada Tributo looks, its burn is not quite as perfect. The draw is just right, and there’s a decent amount of smoke. The burn line tends to get messy, however, and requires the occasional touch-up. The white ash is on the flaky side.

If complexity is what you love, the Tributo Alvaro has that and then some. The first third kicks off the smoking festivities with earth and the wood that was noticed in the cold taste. Leather comes next, as does a nice shot of spicy pepper. The pepper lingers for a while until the final third. Here, a tasty mix of wood, nuts, and coffee complete the cigar.

Although I readily admit I have not had much experience with Quesada smokes in the past, I feel as if the Tributo has opened my eyes to the brand. The appearance really hooked me, and so did the complexity, especially during the final third. The burn was not as great as I would have liked, but it did not ruin the experience. The cigar was never overpowering and remained in the medium to full-bodied range. Still, I wouldn’t advise it as a purchase for beginners. At $7 to $8 per single, it is somewhat pricey, but that shouldn’t stop you from at least trying one for a special occasion. You can also find the Tributo in packs of five or boxes of 24.

The Quesada Tributo Alvaro earns a rating of 3.5 out of four stars.
