cuencacuenca 5 anniversary torpedo

The Cuenca 5 Anniversary has an inviting appearance thanks to its beautiful dark brown wrapper.  It has a nice sheen of oil that is visible and a few medium-sized veins.  Construction appears to be solid from head to toe, and the box-pressed shape looks great.  I feel no soft spots as I give the cigar a squeeze.  A large colorful band near the head displays the Cuenca name and logo surrounded by ornate graphics.   Before lighting there’s sweet cold taste and an aroma that is earthy.

After lighting the Cuenca 5 Anniversary, the cigar burns nicely. There are no major issues to report. The draw is on the easy side and there’s tons of thick smoke. The ash is white in color and solid. Only one touch-up is needed, while re-lights are not necessary.

As for the 5 Anniversary Torpedo’s flavor, I would call it full-flavored, just as advertised.  The first third starts off with earth, pepper, and some sweetness.  The second third continues to be spicy and sweet, and also introduces notes of chocolate and cherry to really kick up the complexity.  The final third finishes things off on a smooth note with chocolate, cherry, and sweetness.

I came into this review not knowing much about Cuenca cigars, but I must say that they impressed me with the 5 Anniversary Torpedo.  The cigar looked inviting right off the bat, and its solid burn continued that solid impression.  It also had a very interesting mix of flavors that kept my taste buds entertained from beginning to end.  As far as its strength is concerned, I’d call the 5 Anniversary medium to full-bodied, making it ok for either beginners or experienced smokers.  A single will cost you around $8.50, which isn’t bad considering the quality you’re getting in return.  You can also find it in packs of five or boxes of 10 directly from the Cuenca Cigars website.  I’d at least spring for a pack of five so you can keep some around for you and your friends to enjoy.

The Cuenca 5 Anniversary Torpedo earns a rating of 3.75 out of four stars.
