If first appearances are everything, the Short Run 2011 Bombones passes the test. The wrapper has a slight sheen of oil when put under light, and very few veins are visible. The two decorative bands look great, and add a nice aesthetic touch. The top band shows the E.P. Carrillo logo, while the one beneath it showcases the Short Run moniker in gold and black. The cigar is free of any major imperfections and feels firm to the touch. Construction earns an A plus. The cold taste is earthy, while the cigar's pre-light aroma is of mild spice.
After lighting, the Short Run 2011 Bombones performs admirably. The draw is somewhat tight, but not overwhelmingly so. Plenty of smoke is produced, and the ash is solid and light gray in color. The burn does act as if it wants to become uneven. It does manage to correct itself without the help of the lighter, however.
E.P. Carrillo did a good job of creating an interesting mix of flavors with the Short Run 2011. The cigar kicks off with notes of cinnamon and nuts. This flavorful combo continues until it gives way to pepper in the second third. The cigar gets a tiny kick of power here, but nothing too strong. The final third showcases earth, wood, and cinnamon once again.
If I had to complain about one aspect of the Short Run 2011, it would be its limited production. It's a quality cigar, but with the production set so low, there will likely be problems if you want to continue to enjoy it. The cigar's presentation, burn, and flavors were all solid. I'd recommend the Short Run 2011 to fans of medium-bodied cigars that can be enjoyed on a frequent basis. The Bombones comes in boxes of 24, at a price of just over $6 per single. That's not bad, especially when you consider the limited supply. Don't hesitate to pick some up, however, because you never know when they could run out.
The E.P. Carrillo Short Run 2011 Bombones earns a rating of 3.75 out of four stars.
