2004 Torano 1916, 5.5 X 52
Wrapper: Cameroon
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Honduran & Nicaraguan
Storage: 60 – 65 RH at 60 – 68 F.
Construction: Beautiful satin toothy medium brown wrapper. Solidly rolled with no soft spots. Clipped clean.
Prelight: Toasty, woody taste and aroma with a medium-firm draw.
Burn: Lit evenly, straight burn with no touch-ups, rock solid off-white/lt. gray ash.
Drink: Old Havana Cognac.
Smoking Notes: Initial impression is a very woody and toasty smoke with light cammie spice and cedar on the finish. The smoke is thick, silky and very smooth. The aroma is woody and spicy. By half way, the Honduran filler was contributing some nice tangy, but not sour, notes and the cammie spice had built into superb spicy cinnamon and sweet flavors. The cigar also turned quite cedary – a very nice complement to the cammie notes. The cedar and spice notes continue to build thru the rest of the cigar, but it still retained the excellent woody notes at the core. Never became bitter or tarry as I smoked it to the nub. An excellent 1 hour and 45 min. smoke.
Overall Impression: Medium-full, the 1916 is a “cammie with an attitude” and an absolutely superb smoke. It starts and ends with great woody flavors and the smoke is wonderfully silky and incredibly smooth. A very consistent, very solid cigar, the 1916 is great for sunny days on the back porch watching the grass grow. I rate it a big beautiful A.
