image001A review of the Aroma Real San Jorge Torpedo cigar.

Dimensions: 5x50

Made in: Mexico

Wrapper: Mexico

Binder: Mexico

Filler: Mexico

Construction Comments: The Aroma Real San Jorge Torpedo is well-rolled, but somewhat veiny and a little bumpy. The wrapper seems thin. It is a dark maduro cigar. It just looks “ok” and appears to be an ordinary cigar. The black and gold band is not a work of art, but it is nice and average in appearance.

Pre-light Aroma and Flavor: Very nice. It has aromas and tastes of leather, cedar and tobacco that blend together well. Before lighting it smells and tastes pleasant … better than it looks.

Burn: I couldn’t find either of my 2 torch lighters (damnit), so I lit up with a Bic on the balcony overlooking Tampa Bay. The cigar lit fine. It started off burning just a tad crooked. The ash is somewhat flaky and colored charcoal gray. The aroma received compliments from my non-smoking girlfriend, so that is a plus.

Drink: Nothing on this one.

Smoking Notes: The Aroma Real San Jorge Torpedo didn’t look promising, but the pre-light aroma and flavor held out hope. It lit well, started with a crooked burn, but quickly corrected into a perfect straight burn for 95% of the cigar.

The taste was similar to the pre-light flavor. It was a good flavor, but it did lack complexity and stayed the same throughout. Along with the somewhat plain and unattractive look of the cigar, its other weak feature was the flaky ash that wouldn’t hold for more than half an inch. (Don’t wear white pants when smoking this one.)

Overall Experience and Rating: The Aroma Real San Jorge Torpedo is an average cigar. It is mild, but it has a little more flavor than some mild cigars. There is some flavor there, but again, it is not complex and doesn’t change as you smoke. The first puff is the same as the last puff.

I smoked this on an empty stomach before dinner, and it was fine as a warm up to dinner smoke. Although its appearance is dark, you don’t need to ingest a hardy dinner before smoking this one.

This would be a good golf cigar, but it is still too good to give to your mother-in-law as a gift. On a 1 to 10 scale I give The Aroma Real San Jorge Torpedo a 5.
