The Hoyo de Monterrey Churchill Maduro makes a good first impression with its dark brown wrapper. It has quite the oily sheen, some small veins, and is smooth overall. The band near the head is a looker with its black and gold colors. It features the Hoyo de Monterrey name in classy print. The cigar appears to be put together well with no real imperfections. Feeling the cigar lets me know that it is not lacking in tobacco by any means. The pre-light aroma is of coffee. The cold taste, on the other hand, is slightly spicy.
The solid appearance of the Hoyo de Monterrey Churchill Maduro successfully translates into a great burn. No touch-ups or re-lights are necessary, allowing me to fully enjoy what the cigar has to offer. The draw is easy and the aroma is very appetizing. The light-colored ash is long as well.
Flavor-wise, the Hoyo de Monterrey Churchill Maduro exhibits a decent variety that keeps the smoking experience from reaching a dull point. It begins with a mild spice that is not too strong. The spice becomes stronger in the second third, but never reaches the point of being overbearing. Delicious cocoa and coffee also appear. The final third is a mix of more coffee and leather. Medium to full-bodied seems like the perfect description for the Hoyo de Monterrey Churchill Maduro.
I can easily say that the Hoyo de Monterrey Churchill Maduro is a solid cigar. I enjoyed the cigar’s burn and flavor, although I would not call it overly complex. A single sells for around $4, and you can also purchase the Churchill Maduro in boxes of 25 or packs of five. A box purchase is definitely tempting, mostly because the cigar is flavorful and a good value. Light one up after dinner when you want to relax. You won’t be disappointed.
The Hoyo de Monterrey Churchill Maduro earns a rating of 3.5 out of four stars.
