As I look at the Island Cigar Factory Maduro Al Capone, I first notice the cigar’s color.  The Maduro wrapper is so dark that it’s basically black in color.  It has some oil on the surface and feels toothy overall with a few prominent veins running throughout its body.  Like pretty much all of the bundled cigars from Island Cigar Factory, there is no decorative band. The cigar has a decent weight to it and has just a little give when pressed.  The cold taste is of chocolate, while the aroma is sweet.

After lighting, the Maduro Al Capone has a solid burn, with the exception of a few touch-ups that are needed around the second half of the smoking experience.  The draw is good and plenty of cool smoke is produced.  The dark gray ash is solid in form.

There’s a decent amount of complexity packed into the Island Cigar Factory Maduro.  The familiar chocolate detected in the pre-light inspection is the first flavor that comes into play.  I also notice notes of mild spice in the first third.  The second third becomes a tad stronger with its spiciness, and sweet notes come into play as well.  The final third offers sweet notes, as well as coffee and chocolate.  As far as the cigar’s strength, I’d call it medium to full-bodied.

The Island Cigar Factory Maduro Al Capone was a solid cigar.  It offered solid construction and a nice mix of flavors that were enjoyable.  I’d recommend it if you are a fan of cigars that have Maduro wrappers.  I wouldn’t call it overly strong, but it has a bit of a kick.  A bundle of 25 cigars costs $125.  You can find the Maduro Al Capone at Island Cigar Factory’s website, www.islandcigarfactory.com, or you can pick one up in person the next time you’re down in sunny Key West.

The Island Cigar Factory Maduro Al Capone earns a rating of 3.5 out of four stars.
