If I had to pick one word to describe the flavor of the Year of the Snake, it would be complex.  The first third is a blend of mild spice, wood, and cedar.  The second third continues with the spice and is also creamy.  I detect some tasty caramel here as well.  The final third is a mix of creaminess, nuts, spice, chocolate, and coffee.  I’d call the cigar’s strength medium to full-bodied.

Well, there’s no doubt that the Davidoff Year of the Snake is a superb cigar.  It not only looked beautiful, but it smoked and tasted that way as well.  So, what about the price?  At just about $30 per single, this isn’t a budget smoke by any means.  With that being said, if you want to pick one up for a really special occasion, do not hesitate to do so.  You can also find it in packs of four or boxes of eight, but quantities are very limited.

The Davidoff Year of the Snake earns a rating of four out of four stars.

Island Cigar Factory Maduro Al Capone

alt

The Island Cigar Factory by Rafael Fuente chain of boutique cigar shops in Key West sent me a handy little sampler of three of their cigars: the Dual Wrap, Connecticut, and Maduro.  This review will concentrate on the Maduro version, while the reviews other two are going to be or have already been posted.

Al Capone was one of the most famous gangsters in U.S. history, and his name is used for one of the formats offered by Island Cigar Factory.  The Maduro Al Capone measures 5 1/2 x 48.  Other formats offered by this boutique brand are numerous, and they include the Perfecto, Solomon, Pyramid, Presidente, and Gigante, just to name a few.  As for the Maduro Al Capone’s composition, there’s not much information out there, other than the fact that it sports a Maduro wrapper and that the Caribbean tobaccos used have been aged for five years.
