altAnother day, another pair of Puff.com cigar reviews.  Today the Diamond Crown Gridiron Greats and the Paul Garmirian Symphony 20 take the stage.  With any luck, one of these will be good enough to encourage you to drive to your local B&M to try one out this upcoming weekend.

Diamond Crown Gridiron Greats Churchill

The Diamond Crown Gridiron Greats is a cigar that was created by J.C. Newman Cigar Co. not only for cigar fans to enjoy, but also as a way to raise money for a good cause.  A portion of the proceeds of the sale of the cigar was given to the Gridiron Greats Assistance Fund, which was set up to help retired NFL players and their families in their struggles with life after football.  Since I love cigars and am quite a football fan, I felt like giving the Gridiron Greats Churchill was a no-brainer.  Now let’s see what this cigar has to offer.

The Diamond Crown Gridiron Greats measures 7 x 48 in its Churchill format.  The cigar features a filler that is referred to as the Stanford’s 90th blend.  While that takes care of the cigar’s interior, its exterior is made up of a Cameroon wrapper.  Strength-wise, the Gridiron Greats Churchill is considered to be medium-bodied.

The Gridiron Greats Churchill has a very pleasing and enticing appearance.  It looks like an expensive stick, which is a good thing because it is far from cheap.  The Cameroon wrapper is chocolate brown in color and oily.  The wrapper feels smooth to the touch and has a few medium veins that are visible.  Construction appears to be solid overall.  The large band near the head is a nice touch.  It displays the Diamond Crown label and logo and is quite colorful.  The band beneath it is black and gold and features the Gridiron Greats name.  The pre-light aroma is of mild tobacco, and the cold taste is sweet.

Once in action, the burn is satisfactory.  There are some touch-ups but zero re-lights needed.  The draw is on the easy side, and a good amount of smoke is emitted.  The ash is light gray in color and is flaky.
