Today’s reviews on Puff.com are all about the Don Tomas brand. We will kick things off with the Don Tomas Clasico and wrap them up with the Don Tomas Maduro.
Don Tomas Clasico Robusto
The Don Tomas brand of cigars comes from General Cigar Company, the same company behind such big names as Cohiba and Macanudo. The Don Tomas Clasico is said to be smooth and balanced, while carrying a price tag that’s not too hard on your wallet. That sounds good to me, as I’ve been looking for a new smooth stogie to sample. For this review, I will be trying one of the Robusto offerings from the Clasico line. Let’s see how it does, shall we?
The Don Tomas Clasico Robusto measures in at 5 1/2 x 50. It’s just one of several sizes in the line. Others include the 4 1/8 x 32 Coronitas, 4 1/2 x 50 Rothschild, 5 1/2 x 50 Allegro Tube, 6 x 54 Toro, 6 1/2 x 44 Cetro #2, and the 7 1/2 x 50 Presidente. The cigar’s interior is made up of a blend of Honduran and Nicaraguan tobaccos. Its exterior, meanwhile, consists of a Honduran Havana Seed wrapper. If you are a fan of Maduro wrappers, the Clasico also comes in a version that carries a Connecticut Maduro wrapper. As mentioned, the Clasico is said to be a smooth cigar, and its strength is listed as medium-bodied.
The Don Tomas Clasico Robusto is a good looking cigar. I really like its decorative band that displays the Don Tomas Clasico moniker over some ornate graphics. The black, yellow, gold, and red color scheme looks good against the medium-brown wrapper. I notice some oil on the surface, but not too much. There are a few prominent veins here and there. The Clasico feels firm to the touch, and construction seems solid overall. Before lighting, I pick up a spicy aroma. The cold taste is spicy as well.
The Don Tomas Clasico Robusto lights with ease and offers a great draw. Plenty of thick, aromatic smoke fills the air. The burn is quite even and only requires one touch-up. No re-lights are necessary. The ash is firm and gray in color. All in all, the burn is solid.
