Looking at the Mike Ditka Throwback, my eyes are immediately drawn to the banding.  A picture of Ditka from his Chicago Bears coaching days takes up the top of the band, and it really gives off a cool 80’s vibe.  The cigar’s name is also on display as well as the Camacho brand.  The cigar’s wrapper is oily and has a bit of a reddish tint.  There are a few veins, and it feels firm to the touch.  Before lighting I detect a cedar aroma, while the flavor is of coffee.

Once lit, the Throwback burns well.  The smoke is thick and the draw is great.  Only one touch-up is needed.  One re-light as well in the final third.  The ash is solid and dark gray in color.  I have no real complaints here.

In terms of flavor, I'd call the Mike Ditka Throwback entertaining. It begins with some cedar notes that combine with pepper for a rather strong first third. The second third picks up in strength with its pepper and introduces coffee into the mix. The final third gets smoother once again, featuring spice, cedar, and sweetness.  This is definitely full-bodied, just as promised.

If you’re a fan of Mike Ditka or enjoy cigars from Camacho, the Throwback is worth picking up for a Sunday filled with football watching.  Its strength is meant for experienced smokers, so if you are just starting out or like mild cigars, give this one a pass.  The Throwback is sold in boxes of 10, with singles selling in the $10 range.  As mentioned, it is limited, so don’t delay if you plan on picking one up.

The Mike Ditka Throwback earns a rating of 3.5 out of four stars.
