Writing reviews this month I must have fallen into a nostalgic funk. I found myself doing
humidor inventory and stumbling across many cigars that brought back fantastic memories of
great smoking experiences, and great friends. One of the cigars that absolutely fit this
bill is the El Rey Del Mundo Robusto Larga. This lovely 6 x 54 toro often comes
affectionately wrapped in white tissue paper. This may have been what attracted me to
the Robusto Larga many many years ago, but it was the amazing consistency and o
utstanding flavor that has kept me coming back year after year.
There are three men that can be given the primary credit for the success of El Rey Del Mundo cigars. (El Rey Del Mundo translates to “king of the world” in spanish) Frank Llaneza, Estello Padron, and Manuel Zavala are the master cigar makers and tobacco cultivators behind this brand. There is value in just about every cigar that comes from El Rey Del Mundo, and in an economy like we are in value is king.
The Honduran El Rey Del Mundo line of cigars has been amazingly consistent for as long as I can remember. It’s a go-to cigar for experienced cigar smokers and novice cigar smokers alike. It’s nice to know there are extremely cost effective cigars that can produce on all fronts, looks, taste, presentation, construction and relative availability.
The history of the El Rey Del Mundo Robusto Larga is one of being an extremely flavorful cigar without being overwhelming. If there was an award for cigars that were most consistently “nubbed” by their smokers, this would inevitably when a gold medal. As you search the Internet looking for reviews of the cigar you continue to run into some of the same comments. Most folks indicate they bought the cigar on a whim, either being attracted by the name or the white tissue wrapper, and continue to go on about what a surprise the cigar was to them.
