Luis Tiant pitches a cigar that is much milder than his fastball was.
Luis Tiant...brings back memories for us true baseball fans. That special delivery where he seemed like he turned completely around and stared at the outfield before unleashing another almost un-hittable pitch towards home plate. That was Luis Tiant the Major League Pitcher, what about Luis Tiant the cigar marketer?
From the El Tiante Cigars website comes the following description of what Luis and his cigar making friends are trying to accomplish.
"Luis Red Sox Legend Luis Tiant proudly introduces his 23 Series. Created exclusively for cigar aficionados and enthusiasts to the exact specifications of Luis Tiant himself. Truly a gem in the cigar industry, the El Tiante 23 Series is an exquisite premium cigar, boasting a unique and incomparable flavor, aroma, and bouquet. The El Tiante 23 Series is a completely hand made cigar rolled by Tabacalera Tambor using selected tobacco leaves grown in Nicaragua, Ecuador, and Mexico."
Attractive looking, the light Nicaraguan wrapper hints at a mild smoking experience. This cigar was designed to be mild, so if that is a turn off, you may want to take that asphalt hardened palate on to another cigar. Once lit the El Tiante Churchill smokes with great construction. The folks at Tabacalera Tambor represented Mr. Tiant well in the construction of this Churchill.
Expecting mild, our reviewers got mild. A grassy taste was noticeable and enjoyable at the beginning of this cigar. Unfortunately this same taste turned sour towards the latter part of the cigar.
"I liked this smoke. It takes a good two hours to finish, and gets a bit difficult towards the end, but all in all a solid mild cigar."
"While I usually smoke stronger cigars, I could see why a person would enjoy this if they were into mild cigars. My one concern though is the young flavor of the tobacco's. Not sure the age, but I would bet they are pretty fresh."
The El Tiante Natural Churchill is a big mild cigar, you could say it is the teddy bear of the cigar industry. If you enjoy mild smokes, and have a couple hours to relax with one, this is a cigar worth trying.
The El Tiante also comes in a Belicoso and Robusto sizes, and has the same three sized cigars available in Maduro with the addition of some Mexican San Andreas filler.
