pinar del riopinar del rio habano sun grown toro

The Habano Sun Grown Toro gives off a great first impression with its presentation.  The cigar’s two bands really stand out and give the cigar a nice aura of elegance with their design.  The top band is large and features the Pinar Del Rio name as well as the Habano Sun Grown moniker.  The band right beneath it is smaller in size, but looks just as good.  The gold accents of both bands really stand out and catch the eye.  The cigar itself has a beautiful reddish-brown wrapper that has plenty of oil on its surface.  The cigar feels firm to the touch and is well-packed with tobacco.  I can feel no soft spots at all.  Before lighting, the cigar’s aroma and cold taste are both spicy.

After lighting, the Pinar Del Rio Habano Sun Grown Toro has a solid burn, with the exception of a few touch-ups that are needed in the second third.  The draw is good and plenty of creamy smoke is produced.  The gray ash is solid in form.

There’s a decent amount of complexity packed into the Habano Sun Grown Toro.  The familiar spiciness detected in the pre-light inspection is the first flavor that comes into play.  I also notice notes of leather in the first third.  The second third becomes creamy and leathery, while the spice still remains in the background.  The final third is sweet and creamy.

All in all, the Pinar Del Rio Habano Sun Grown Toro was a good cigar.  I can’t honestly say that it blew me away in any aspect, but I did enjoy what it had to offer.  I could see it as a good choice for earlier in the day due to its mostly smooth nature.  A single can be had for about $6, and the cigar also comes in packs of five or boxes of 20.  Try one out if you enjoy medium-bodied cigars that feature Dominican tobacco.

The Pinar Del Rio Habano Sun Grown Toro earns a rating of 3.5 out of four stars.
