Right off the bat, the Cain Nub Maduro 460's short, fat body catches the eye. This isn't a pretty cigar by any means, and it gives off the aura of being a powerhouse packed into a small frame. The 460 appears to be constructed well, and its Maduro wrapper is dark and oily. Only a few small veins are visible. To the touch, the 460 is very firm. Hopefully this does not mean the draw will be too tight. An attractive band sits at the foot of the cigar. It displays the Cain brand name and has a nice gold border that is eye-catching. Before lighting, the cigar's aroma is sweet. It's cold taste is spicy.
There are no complaints in the burn department. Despite the 460's smallish body, it smokes slowly. The burn line never goes uneven, and the cigar also stays lit on its own without any help from a lighter. The draw turns out to be fine and not too tight as anticipated in the pre-light inspection. Some long white ash is also formed.
Some decent flavor is packed into the stubby body of the Nub Maduro 460. It's not too complex, but it seems to have just enough flavor to stray from reaching the level of being bland. Spicy pepper is the first flavor that appears. It has some nice kick to it, but is not overbearing. Earthiness comes next. Towards the final third, notes of coffee emerge, as does some sweetness. The Nub Maduro 460 is full-bodied, but not overpowering by any means.
When all is said and done, the Cain Nub Maduro 460 is a solid little stick. Nothing really stands out about the cigar, but it does have its positive aspects. It offers quality construction, a good burn, and just enough flavor. Fans of full-bodied cigars or those who enjoy Maduro wrappers might want to give the 460 a try. The same goes for fans of thicker cigars. A single can be found for around $6, which is not bad. It can also be found in boxes of 24.
The Can Nub Maduro 460 earns a rating of three out of four stars.
