You'll be hard-pressed to find any complaints about the ESV 1991 Regente in terms of looks. The cigar's Connecticut wrapper is silky smooth and oily. There are some minor veins that are visible, but no major defects. The gold and black band showcases the Perdomo name and logo and looks great against the creamy wrapper. The cigar feels firm for the most part and has zero soft spots. It's pre-light aroma and taste are of cedar.

After being lit, the Regente burns perfectly. The draw is good. Solid white ash is produced. The burn is as even as can be from start to finish. Re-lights and touch-ups are not needed. You could not ask for a better burn.

The flavor department is where the cigar seems to drop off due to a lack of complexity. In the beginning, you get a good dose of coffee. The coffee later gives way to woody flavors that dominate the second third. The final third consists of creamy and sweet flavors. The cigar's strength is not weak, nor is it harsh at any point. It stays medium-bodied throughout.

Is the Perdomo ESV 1991 a quality cigar? Yes, it is. Is it a must-have? No, it's not a must-have, just because the flavors seem rather plain. Maybe it was just my experience, but the cigar did not wow me. It did seem like it would be a decent choice for someone who like medium-bodied sticks, but there are tons of those on the market. The ESV 1991 Regente sells for around $10. It also comes in boxes of 20. That price seems too high. Now, you can find the cigar in its “2nds” version. These are cigars that were deemed to have wrappers that were a bit off color or had small defects during the inspection process. Instead of tossing them, Perdomo decided to offer them at a major discount. You can find these in bundles of 15 for around $40. At that price, you can get much more mileage out of the ESV 1991 and use it for the occasional daytime smoke.

The Perdomo ESV 1991 Regente earns a rating of three out of four stars.
