Today’s cigar reviews on Puff.com focus on the Gurkha brand and a couple of its bold smokes in the form of the Gurkha Warlord and the Gurkha Signature 1887 Black.

Gurkha Warlord

The Warlord is a boldly-named line from the bold brand known as Gurkha.  It’s a limited release that comes in just one size and carries somewhat of a hefty price tag.  Strong, flavorful, and long-lasting, brand owner Kaizad Hansotia has been quoted as saying that the Warlord is one of his greatest creations ever.  Will it live up to the hype?  I’m about to find out firsthand….

The Gurkha Warlord’s only format, a Super Toro, measures in at 6.75 x60.  That’s quite large, and it’s why the cigar is described as being a long-lasting smoke.  The interior of the Warlord is made up of Dominican and Nicaraguan fillers.  A Nicaraguan wrapper completes the composition.  As mentioned earlier, the Warlord is considered to be a powerful cigar, and it’s listed as being full-bodied in strength.

The Gurkha Warlord is a very attractive cigar thanks to its chocolate brown wrapper that has plenty of oil on the surface. Some medium veins are visible, but no major imperfections are detected. The cigar feels smooth, yet firm to the touch and lacks soft spots. The large decorative band near the head displays the Gurkha name and logo over a color scheme of brown and gold. There’s also a smaller black band at the foot and a cedar sheath that covers the lower half of the cigar.  I sense a spicy aroma and an earthy cold taste prior to lighting.

After striking the Warlord with my lighter, it’s nothing but smooth sailing. The burn is almost perfect. No touch-ups are required at all.  The cigar only needs one quick relight. The draw is easy and there’s plenty of smoke that comes out of this big and bulky cigar.  Solid white ash is produced.   Smoking time is around two hours total.  All in all, we are good to go in the burn department.
