Moving into the appearance department, let’s begin by discussing the La Aurora Escogidos’ bands. The top band displays the Aurora Escogidos name in large letters over a red, yellow, and gold color scheme. The band beneath it displays the Maduro label in gold and red. The cigar itself has a dark and oily wrapper. There are some medium sized veins that are visible, as well as some tooth. I can tell that this Robusto is well-packed with tobacco due to its firmness and lack of soft spots. Before lighting, I sense a chocolate taste and a sweet aroma.
After striking the Escogidos Maduro Robusto with my lighter, the cigar exhibits a solid burn. It does need a couple of minor touch-ups, but never gets out of hand. The draw is good and there's plenty of thick smoke that is produced. The ash is solid and gray in color.
When it comes to the La Aurora Escogidos Maduro's flavor, I'd call it varied and entertaining. The cigar is pretty smooth from start to finish, but it packs a tiny punch to awaken the senses. The first third begins with some sweetness, earth, and mild spice. This transitions and gives way to coffee, creaminess, and more sweetness around the halfway point. The final third finishes things off with more mild spice, chocolate, and tasty caramel. This is a medium-bodied stick all the way.
To put it simply, the La Aurora Escogidos Maduro Robusto is a quality cigar. It looked good, burned well, and had plenty of flavor. I would recommend it to beginners or anyone looking for a smooth smoke that is flavorful at the same time. A single sells for around $6 each, but you can find it in packs of five or boxes of 20 for much cheaper. Go ahead and pick up a box, but make sure to do so quickly, as this is a limited release.
The La Aurora Escogidos Maduro Robusto earns a rating of 3.75 out of four stars.
