illusultra Today we are taking a closer look at a pair of cigars from the Illusione brand. Kicking things off is the powerful, full-flavored Illusione MK Ultra. Wrapping things up is a stogie for fans of Maduro-wrapped cigars: the Illusione MJ12 Maduro.

Illusione MK Ultra

If you are a follower of the Illusione brand or have enjoyed its MK cigar in the past, the MK Ultra is a stogie worth keeping an eye on. It’s based on the MK, but it supposed to offer more of a kick. Some say that you should also avoid smoking the MK Ultra on an empty stomach. I took that advice and loaded up on dinner prior to lighting up. Now on to the details…….

The Illusione MK Ultra line comes in just a 5 1/8 x 42 Corona size. The cigar is a puro, meaning it's made completely of tobacco from one nation. That nation is Nicaragua in this case, so you get a filler, binder, and wrapper of all Nicaraguan tobacco. To give you a bit more detail on the wrapper, it’s of the Corojo variety. The Uno Puro undergoes an aging process during which it is infused with premium cognac. The MK Ultra’s strength is full-bodied all the way, so it’s not really meant for beginners.

The MK Ultra gives off a positive first impression thanks to its dark and oily wrapper. The cigar is free of any major flaws and has a few medium-sized veins. The triple cap is very neat. The decorative band near the head is easy on the eyes, but nothing flashy. It has the Ultra moniker stamped on it, and the black and white color scheme is simple, yet modern. As far as I can tell, there are no true soft spots and the cigar feels firm to the touch. The pre-light aroma is reminiscent of coffee, while the cold taste is of earth.

Clipping the Illusione MK Ultra is a relatively easy task. Once lit, the cigar has a burn that can be called satisfactory. The draw is just right and some solid dark gray ash appears. The burn does get a tad uneven at times, but nothing that I cannot correct with a little help from the lighter. This is a slow burning cigar that let’s you take your time while enjoying it.
