In terms of presentation and appearance, the Illusione Singulare 2012 is pretty similar to the Singulare 2011. One difference is that the 2012 comes wrapped in tissue paper to help distinguish it from the 2011 cigars that come packed in the same box. Another difference from the 2011 is that the 2012 has a darker wrapper. The wrapper is more dry than oily. There are a few medium-sized veins, but no major imperfections. A simple white and silver band sits near the head that showcases the Illusione name. Touching the cigar, I can tell that it’s well-packed with tobacco. The triple cap looks good too. Before lighting, there’s a cold taste that is spicy and a sweet aroma.
The Illusione Singulare 2012 lights with ease and has an excellent draw. The white ash is solid. The smoke is voluminous in nature. The slow burn only requires a couple of touch-ups and no re-lights are necessary.
There is not a ton of complexity to report when it comes to the Singulare 2012, but it is an enjoyable cigar. The first third starts off with sweetness that is soon joined by mild spice. The spice continues into the second third and picks up a bit in strength. It never goes above medium-bodied, however. The second third also features more sweetness and chocolate. The spice dissipates in the final third and gives way to sweetness, chocolate, and cedar. Overall, it’s a very smooth and consistent smoke.
Like the Singulare 2011, the Illusione Singulare 2012 is a solid cigar. It did not overly impress me, but I cannot complain about anything in particular. I would recommend the 2012 to Illusione fans, those who enjoy medium-bodied smokes, or those like Maduro wrappers. At $11 a pop, the Singulare 2012 is not cheap, but it is worthy of a purchase for a special occasion. Pick up a box of 15 that comes mixed with the Singulare 2011 if you want some variety.
The Illusione Singulare 2012 earns a rating of 3.5 out of four stars.
