The burn may be disappointing, but the excellent complexity of the Joya de Nicaragua Celebracion Corona props it up several notches. There's a good burst of pepper from the onset that wakes up the senses. In the second-third there's a mellow sweetness that is very smooth. Earthy notes soon kick in, and some rich coffee is in play in the final third. The cigar has just enough strength but never gets to the point of being harsh. It's definitely medium to full-bodied.

Was the Joya de Nicaragua Celebracion disappointing? Considering some of the positive reviews, yes. That's only in terms of its burn, however. The complexity of the cigar really delivered and made it enjoyable. Yes, the heavy maintenance required with the re-lights and touch-ups was a downer, but the cigar's flavor helped draw some attention away from those negative aspects. A single Celebracion Corona sells for just over $5. You can also find it in boxes of 20 in the neighborhood of $80. That's not bad at all, and at least makes the cigar worth a try. If you've tried some Joya de Nicaragua sticks in the past and enjoyed them, the Celebracion Corona may be tempting. It's also a good choice for those who enjoy medium to full-bodied cigars.

The Joya de Nicaragua Celebracion Corona earns a rating of three out of four stars.

Rocky Patel 15th Anniversary Corona Gorda

rocky15pic1

Rocky Patel's 15th Anniversary line was produced to celebrate the brand's 15 years in the cigar industry. Patel heard many negative predictions about his company when he first entered the industry, and many said he wouldn't last ten years. Not only did he make it to the ten-year mark, he surpassed it. The 15th Anniversary was not only created to celebrate the brand's longevity, however. Rocky Patel created it with the hopes of giving his fans a newer version of his popular Decade line with a stronger profile.

The Corona Gorda vitola in the 15th Anniversary line measures 6 x 46. The 15th Anniversary also comes in three other sizes: the 5 x50 Robusto, the 6 1/8 x 52 Torpedo, and the 6 ½ x 52 Toro. The cigar's filler is a blend of Nicaraguan tobaccos, one of which is said to add a lot of spice to the profile and is exclusive to a farm in Esteli, Nicaragua. The binder is also Nicaraguan, and an aged Ecuadorian Habano wrapper is the final piece to this Patel puzzle. The 15th Anniversary is also trunk-pressed and has a Cuban-style triple cap. Listed as medium to full-bodied in strength, the entire 15th Anniversary line is handmade in Esteli, Nicaragua, at Rocky Patel's Tabacalera Villa Cuba S.A. factory.
