Right from the start, I am impressed with the look of the Partagas 1845. The black and gold band near the head adds a nice touch and features the Partagas name and logo of an eagle. It looks great against the cigar’s dark-brown wrapper. The Robusto has an oily appearance and several small veins running throughout its body. It’s mostly firm with a few minor lumps here and there. Prior to lighting, I detect a spicy cold taste and an earthy aroma.
The Partagas 1845 Robusto lights with ease and has a draw that is tighter than I would prefer. It does ease up to become looser after a while, however. A good amount of smoke is produced and the light gray ash is solid. No touch-ups or re-lights are necessary, which is always a plus in my book.
Moving on, the flavor of the 1845 Robusto is superb. It begins with spicy pepper right off the bat. Soon, sweet and chocolate notes join in to complete the first third. The second third has a complex profile that picks up in strength. It includes heartier pepper, earth, more chocolate, and wood. The final third is a tasty blend of earth, wood, and leather. Overall, I would definitely say that the Partagas 1845 is medium to full-bodied.
When all is said and done, I was mightily impressed with the Partagas 1845 Robusto. The cigar looked great and also made the grade in terms of construction and flavor. I recommend picking up a single if you want to try a cigar that packs a bit of a punch and offers plenty of complexity. Light one up on a full stomach to play it safe. With a single selling for around $4, you won’t break the bank by just purchasing one. The option also exists to purchase a box of 20, which I would recommend.
The Partagas 1845 Robusto earns a rating of 3.75 out of four stars.
