La Flor Dominicana Light Maduro Grand Maduro 5

Earlier this year, La Flor Dominicana decided to rebrand its original “Premium Line” of cigars to the recently released La Flor Dominicana Light line. As a follow up to the original Light line, La Flor Dominicana released the Light Maduro, which will be the focus of this review.

I’m sampling the Grand Maduro 5 size of the Light Maduro line for this review. It measures 6 1/4 x 52 and is one of three sizes offered. The other two include the 5 3/4 x 54 Grand Maduro 6 and the 5 1/2 x 42 Grand Maduro 7. The filler is a blend of tobaccos from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua. A Dominican binder comes next. Last, but not least, is a Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro wrapper. The Light Maduro’s strength is listed as being medium to full-bodied, whereas most La Flor Dominicana cigars are usually strong and full-bodied.

The most noticeable physical aspect of the La Flor Dominicana Light Maduro is its box-pressed shape. It’s done to perfection and gives the cigar a nice aesthetic touch. A nice band near the head really spruces up the appearance as well. It showcases the La Flor Dominicana logo and name over a bright red, black, and white color scheme. It has some oil and a couple of minor stray veins noticeable to the naked eye. The cigar also has an interesting marbled look. There are zero soft spots, and it exhibits solid weight when held in the palm of my hand. The spicy scent and earthy cold taste have me rearing to light this baby up.

I really can’t ask for a better burn than the one that is provided by the Light Maduro Grand Maduro 5. Plenty of smoke is produced and the draw is just right. The dark gray ash is solid as well. The burn stays even on its own from start to finish, so maintenance is no issue. That’s exactly how I like it.
