As for the flavor of the Meaner Digger, it’s not the most complex cigar in the world.  It is powerful, however.  The first third commences with a spicy and sweet mix.  Here we are in medium-bodied territory.  The sweet and spicy mix continues into the second third, but things get much stronger, propelling the cigar into full-bodied mode.  Some wood and earth are also noticeable.  The final third tones things down in terms of spice and ends with sweetness, wood, and some toast.

The Meaner Digger was a solid cigar, but I think its look impressed me more than the smoking experience itself.  It is worth a try if you like strong cigars and are seeking something large and unique.  Beginners should take a pass on this one due to the strength.  A single retails for around $14, which isn’t exactly cheap.  Still, you are getting something different in return, so if you can find a Meaner Digger, go for it.

The La Flor Dominicana Meaner Digger earns a rating of 3.5 out of four stars.

Quesada Jalapa Robusto

alt

The Quesada Jalapa line was revealed during the 2012 IPCPR show.  It, like many other offerings from Quesada, is a small batch release.  Only 1,000 boxes of each size were produced, and I just so happened to get my hands on a Robusto for this review.  Before I start, it’s worth noting that the Jalapa is based loosely off of the Quesada Espana, a cigar made specifically for smokers in Spain.

The Quesada Jalapa Robusto measures 4 7/8 x 50.  Other sizes in the line include the 6 1/8 x 52 Belicoso and the 7 5/8 x 49 Prominente.  The cigar’s filler is a blend of Connecticut Broadleaf, Dominican, and Nicaraguan tobaccos.  The binder is Dominican, and a Nicaraguan wrapper from the country’s Jalapa region tops things off.  The strength of the cigar is listed as medium-bodied.
