At first glance, the Guillermo Leon Belicoso is a nice looking stick. The wrapper is dark brown in color and some large veins are visible. Not much of an oily sheen is can be noticed. Patting it down reveals that it's packed well and free of soft spots. A large band near the head stands out with its silver, black, and red color scheme. The Guillermo Leon name on the band is autographed and also stamped on in an elegant font. A quick whiff of the cigar prior to lighting gives off a chocolate scent and the cold taste is of an earthy variety.
After striking the Guillermo Leon Belicoso with a match, a solid burn comes through. The burn is even, with the exception of a couple times where it needs correcting. The draw is good and some solid white ash is produced.
The flavors of the cigar are on the smoother side of things, but they are also varied and provide some nice transitions. A good amount of earthy and spicy flavors are present in the first third. The second third offers up a rich chocolate flavor and some sweetness. The final third is mostly creamy, and is a nice ending to an enjoyable stick.
The Guillermo Leon Belicoso is a solid cigar overall. The construction, burn, and flavor all passed the test. The transitions experienced were also very good. I would say that medium-bodied fans should definitely try the Guillermo Leon line, as it has plenty of smoothness that they should find appealing. Beginning smokers can give it a try as well. A single goes for around $9, which is a tad high. You are getting a quality product, however. It also comes in boxes of 20.
The Guillermo Leon Belicoso earns a rating of 3.5 out of four stars.
