Right off the bat, I notice the pleasant reddish tint in the dark brown wrapper. The classy and subtle band adds a nice touch with its black and white color scheme that features the CG4 label. Getting back to the cigar itself, the wrapper has a good amount of oil and only minimal veining. The appearance is smooth overall and the construction seems flawless. This is no surprise, as Illusione cigars have rarely failed me in the past. The cigar feels firm to the touch, but strays from being as hard as a brick. I notice a pre-light scent of earth and a chocolate cold taste.
The Illusione CG4 lights with no trouble at all and offers a superb burn. No touch-ups or re-lights are needed, so I have no complaints here. The draw is neither too tight nor too easy. A nice volume of smoke is produced throughout the slow burn. The ash is solid and light gray in color.
The CG4 continues to impress as we move into the flavor department. There are plenty of flavors to be enjoyed that keep my palate entertained. Sweetness kicks off the festivities and is soon joined by spice and leather. The second third continues with the sweetness and adds chocolate and nuts. The final third brings back some spice and finishes things off with earthiness.
The CG4 is a perfect example of why Illusione and Dion Giolito have a solid reputation. The cigar looks good and tastes even better. There was never a dull moment during the entire smoking experience thanks to the various flavors which made me wish that the cigar would never end. Best of all, the CG4 is affordable at $6 to $7 per single. I suggest picking up a box of 25 to keep around for you and your friends, or at least splurge for a five-pack.
The Illusione CG4 earns a rating of 3.75 out of four stars.
