Looks-wise, the Dark Sumatra Noche is extremely attractive thanks to some superb presentation. It comes wrapped in a cedar sheath and is decorated by three bands. The top band displays the Hoyo de Monterrey name. The middle band showcases the Dark Sumatra label, and the final band adds a nice touch as well. The mostly gold and black colors of the bands are quite classy. The cigar itself is dark brown. A bit of oil is noticeable on its surface. There are also a few minor veins that can be seen throughout the body. Feeling the Dark Sumatra Noche reveals that it is well-packed with tobacco. Before lighting, it has a sweet scent and cold taste that is chocolaty.
When in action, the Hoyo de Monterrey Dark Sumatra Noche performs well. Its draw is good, and solid gray ash is produced. There are no touch-ups or re-lights needed. The burn is slow and offers an experience that easily surpasses one hour.
The flavor department is where the Dark Sumatra Noche impresses the most. In short, it is a very flavorful cigar. It begins with a tasty chocolate flavor similar to the one that was hinted in the cold taste. Coffee and sweetness soon join the party. The second third features cinnamon and more chocolate and coffee. The final third continues the chocolate and coffee theme, along with some wood. Strength seems to fluctuate in between medium and full-bodied.
The Hoyo de Monterrey Dark Sumatra Noche is an excellent cigar. It impressed me from the start with its presentation, and that notion continued with the burn and flavor. At that price it's worth a shot to pick one up, and you can also find it in packs of five or boxes of 25.
