Macanudo Robust Hyde Park
Macanudo markets its Robust line as one that strays from most of its traditional offerings by supplying more of a robust flavor, hence the name. The line was initially introduced in 1998 and was tweaked and rereleased in 2003 in an effort to spark further interest from smoking fans. Since many seem to believe that Macanudo selections are too mild or lacking in flavor, the creation of the Robust line was a smart move by the brand to try to eliminate such a reputation. Does the Robust Hyde Park actually live up to its promises of supplying fuller flavor? There is only one way to find out……
The Macanudo Robust Hyde Park measures 5 ½ x 49. There are seven other sizes available in the line, ranging from the 4 3/16 x 32 Ascot to the 7 ½ x 49 Prince Phillip. The filler is a blend of Dominican, Honduran, and Nicaraguan tobaccos, while the binder is Connecticut Broadleaf. The wrapper is Connecticut Shade. In terms of strength, this stick is said to be medium-bodied.
At first glance, the Macanudo Robust Hyde Park is a good looking cigar. Its wrapper is dark brown and it has a healthy amount of oil on the surface. There are some medium veins that are visible as well and the cigar has a rustic appearance. Feeling the cigar reveals that is packed with plenty of tobacco. The decorative band near the head adds a nice touch. It displays the Macanudo Robust name over a red and gold color scheme. Before striking the Hyde Park with a lighter, I notice a cold taste of earth. Its scent, meanwhile, is sweet.
Once in action, the Macanudo Robust Hyde Park is a solid performer. The draw is a tad tight but not too bad. The ash is light gray in color and solid in nature. The burn stays even from start to finish without the need for touch-ups or re-lights.
