Pick a Montecristo, any Montecristo...okay, we pick White.

There is no doubt the Montecristo name is one of the most famous, if not THE most famous brand associated with the cigar industry.  The only proof you need is the myriad of names, colors, and numbers Altadis USA is willing to slap behind the brand to keep generating new interest in their cigars.  Let's see, can we remember them all...there is the original plain Montecristo name ripped off from the original in Cuba. Then there is Platinum, Serie V, Serie VI, Serie VII, Afrique, Cabinet Selection, Habana 2000, Peruvian Square Press and the myriad of Cigare des Arts lines, and now, White.  What's your guess on the next line; will it be a number, country, or color?  Maybe Montecristo Iceland or Montecristo Puce...who knows the possibilities are endless.

The Montecristo White line is described as follows at the Altadis USA website -

"Reminiscent of the original, the Montecristo White boasts a lovely, hand selected Connecticut Shade Ecuadorian wrapper. With a Nicaraguan binder and a blend of select Dominican and Nicaraguan long fillers, the Montecristo White makes for a rich and satisfying well rounded smoke.

Packaged in distinctive hand lacquered white boxes and available in eight sizes, the new Montecristo White follows in its predecessor's path and continues Montecristos fine tradition of being the world's most sought after cigar."

The Monte White No. 2 looked good surrounded by its lightly tanned wrapper.  The snow white band was a nice contrast to this well made torpedo.  By simply holding the cigar, you could tell the construction was well above average.  Clip and cut, and away we go.

While the flavor was definitely mild, it did have a little twang reminiscent of light cedar…perhaps a personality blooming?  Our readers had some mixed thoughts on the taste.

“This cigar reminded me of a simple Macanudo…at what looks like three times the price.”

“Mild flavor, yet keeps me guessing.  Most mild cigars bore me, but this torpedo kept my attention throughout.  I would categorize this as a nice breakfast cigar.”

We ran into some fairly serious issues with the wrapper.  This so called “lovely Connecticut Shade Ecuadorian Wrapper” was more sensitive than wet tissue paper.  Numerous reviewers mentioned the wrapper tearing, and when it starts, it keeps going.

A good summary of our reviewers experience with the Montecristo White No. 2 would emphasize a quality mild cigar with an over sensitive wrapper.  Slap a $12 price tag on this cigar and it’s probably not worth the time or money.  We gave the Monte White No. 2 a solid “B” for its flavor and construction, but we don’t think you’ll have smokers knocking down tobacconist doors for this cigar.
