Cigars with Maduro wrappers are the main theme of today’s two reviews, beginning with the Oliva Serie O Maduro Churchill and ending with the Romeo y Julieta Vintage Maduro.
Oliva Serie O Maduro Churchill
Oliva is a brand known for putting out quality cigars. I have never really had an Oliva that I did not enjoy, so keeping that in mind, I decided to go ahead and purchase an Oliva Serie O Maduro Churchill. Described as being complex and smooth, this Maduro has me tempted, to say the least.
The Oliva Serie O Maduro Churchill measures 7 x 50. The line is also offered in three other sizes to suit different tastes: the 5 x 50 Robusto, 6 x 52 Torpedo, and the 6 x 60 Double Toro. The cigar has Nicaraguan Habano filler and binder grown in the nation’s Condega, Esteli, and Jalapa Valley regions. Completing the composition is a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper. The Serie O Maduro is a Nicaraguan puro, made completely from tobaccos grown in the historically fertile nation. In terms of strength, the Serie O Maduro is said to be full-bodied.
Looking at the Oliva Serie O Maduro Churchill, one cannot help but notice just how dark it is. The cigar's wrapper almost appears black in color, and it has an oily sheen that is very visible under light. Some large veins dot the Churchill’s body. A decorative band lies near the head that has the Oliva name in the middle and the Serie O moniker as well. The band's color scheme of gold, beige, and maroon really contrasts nicely with the ultra-dark wrapper. Feeling the cigar reveals plenty of firmness, indicating that it is well-packed. Before smoking, the Serie O Maduro has a tobacco scent, while its cold taste is spicy.
As one would expect from a cigar made by Oliva, the Serie O Maduro Churchill smokes beautifully. It stays even on its own until the end, without the need for any touch-ups or re-lights. The draw is very good, and the solid gray ash that is formed looks great against the dark, oily wrapper.
