The band on the Flor de las Antillas is the first thing that sticks out when looking at the cigar. It features some very ornate graphics with plenty of color that really stand out against the medium brown wrapper. The wrapper has some oil and a few medium-sized veins. The cigar feels firm to the touch with no soft spots. Construction appears to be very good, and the box-pressed shape is completed to perfection. I pick up an aroma of cedar, while the cold taste is of earth.
The Garcias sure know how to make cigars, so the fact that the Flor de las Antillas burns like a charm is no real surprise. The cigar lights easily and has a great draw and solid gray ash. The burn is even from start to finish and requires no touch-ups or re-lights.
The flavor of the My Father Flor de las Antillas starts off sweet. I also notice mild tobacco and cedar in the first third. Sweetness continues into the second third and joins with some pepper and chocolate. The final third is a mix of chocolate, earth, and cedar. This is definitely a smooth cigar that is medium-bodied all the way.
The My Father Flor de las Antillas Robusto is a great cigar for both beginners and experienced smokers seeking something medium-bodied yet flavorful. It smokes well and has no dull moments thanks to its complexity. A single goes for about $6, and you can also find the Robusto in packs of five or boxes of 20. Spring on a five-pack to see how you like them. You won’t be disappointed.
The My Father Flor de las Antillas earns a rating of 3.75 out of four stars.
