The flavor of the Onyx Reserve Robusto is not bad at all. Sweet and spicy notes dominate the first third. These remain in the second third, with the spice being a bit stronger. I also notice some earth and tasty chocolate around the midway point. The final third is a blend of leather and coffee.
The Onyx Reserve Robusto was a solid smoke overall, but not out of this world. I found the construction and burn to be satisfactory, and the flavors kept me interested too. It’s a good pick if you enjoy Maduro wrappers. At $5 to $6 per single, I’d call the Onyx Reserve a good value. Look for it in packs of five or boxes of 20.
The Onyx Reserve Robusto earns a rating of 3.5 out of four stars.
Saint Luis Rey Serie G Rothchilde

The Saint Luis Rey Serie G comes by way of the tobacco giant Altadis USA. The G at the end of the line’s name stands for gigante, which translates to “giant” or “gigantic” in English. The line was given such a name because each of its offerings has a ring gauge of 54 or larger. In addition to its large size, the Saint Luis Rey Serie G is also said to be full of flavor. Now that’s what I like to hear! For this review, I’ll be trying one of these babies in a Rothchilde format.
The Saint Luis Rey Serie G Rothchilde measures 5 x 56. Other sizes in the line include the 4 1/4 x 54 Short Robusto, 6 x 60 No. 6, 6 1/8 x 54 Belicoso, and the 7 x 58 Churchill. As you can see, all have those larger ring gauges as advertised. The cigar’s filler is a blend of Honduran and Nicaraguan tobaccos. The binder is also Nicaraguan, and a Nicaraguan Habano wrapper completes the composition. Altadis USA also offers the Saint Luis Rey Serie G in a Maduro version of you prefer those wrappers. In terms of strength, the Serie G Rothchilde is listed as full-bodied.
