If there was ever a cigar that was hyped, over hyped, and then hyped again, it's the line of Opus X cigars from Fuente. If there was ever a cigar that was hyped, over hyped, and then hyped again, it's the line of Opus X cigars from Fuente. By now we all know the story. Wrapper, filler and binder all from the Dominican Republic, with the wrapper grown at the uber facility known as Chateau Fuente. The Perfecxion No. 5 is one of the babies of the family, a petit corona that is in hotter demand than a quarterback in San Francisco. (Sorry Jeff Garcia!) The Perfecxion No.5 isn't the only hot cigar in the family, anything in the Opus X tribe is in request. Let us go on the record and say the high grade for this cigar has as much to do with the construction and beauty of the smoke, as it does for the flavor. In fact all things considered, the construction, and general beauty pageant looks of the Perfecxion No. 5 received much higher ratings than any other aspect of the cigar. An absolute beauty. With a wrapper as gorgeous as the Opus X band, there are few smokes that deserve its fine clothing. This is one. There are no flaws. Dark, deep and beautiful, you expect a power packed smoke. Once you hold and light this Opus X, you'll think you've hit paydirt on two fronts. The construction is something to be proud of as well. Solid, strong, no wimp of a petit corona here. Even with a uneven light, the cigar quickly corrects for your mistake and burns perfectly the rest of the way. Can the flavor live up to all the expectations and industry accolades? It Depends, it depends on how strong you like your cigar. This is a meaty little guy. And unfortunately for all the rabid little Fuente fans, not "meaty strong" in a way everyone liked. The strong cigar crowd loved the flavor packed into such a small cigar. On the flip side, I heard from to many reviewers that the taste was strong, but not pleasant and crisp in the way an Ashton VSG is. A majority of the reviewers pointed out the strong flavor while additionally mentioning a strong and ever-lingering aftertaste. So what do you make of this smoke? The quality is never in doubt, but your either going to savor this cigar for a long time, or find yourself wondering why your so much lighter in the pocket book for something that was so lauded. As it was with us, the quality would have made it an A+, while the flavor left some people scratching their heads. Vital Statistics: Shape = Petit Corona Length =4 7/8" RG=40 Wrapper = D.R. Filler = D.R. Binder = D.R. Estimated Cost = $10.50
