The Factory Press IV is an attractive cigar thanks to its pressed shape. It’s about as perfect as can be, and definitely different from most stogies on the market. The large size is also impressive. The decorative band near the head displays the La Flor Dominicana logo and the Factory Press name. Its red, gold, and black colors are the perfect complement to the dark chocolate colored wrapper which has an oily sheen and a few veins here and there. The cigar has a hefty weight to it and appears to be packed tightly with tobacco. Pre-light aroma is of wood, while the cold taste is all pepper.
Once in action, the La Flor Dominicana Factory Press IV performs decently. The burn stays even most of the time but does require a few touch-ups here and there. The draw is on the tight side. The light gray ash is flaky. This is a large cigar that burns slowly, so make sure you have around two hours to smoke it.
As far as flavor is concerned, the Factory Press IV is not very complex. It does have some nice power, but some may find it to be too one-dimensional. The cigar begins with an introduction of pepper in the first third. It’s not enough to blow you away, but it is spicy. In the second third chocolate comes into play and blends with even more pepper. The final third is more chocolate with just a touch of pepper and some cedar.
I was impressed by the Factory Press IV in the beginning due to its construction and size. Unfortunately, the flavor was lacking the complexity necessary to keep me entertained. It’s a nice stogie to have around if you enjoy cigars with large ring gauges that pack a peppery punch. Other than that, I’m not so sure it’s worth its $14 price tag per single. You can find the Factory Press IV in trays of 12 or cabinets of 120. I’d stick to a single if you are going to take the plunge.
The La Flor Dominicana Factory Press IV earns a rating of 3.25 out of four stars.
