As I first make eye contact with the Oliva Inferno Robusto, its decorative band stands out. The band has the obvious red color to denote the whole Inferno theme, but also displays some black, gold, and white to make it even more noticeable. The Inferno moniker is stamped in the middle of a fiery logo. The cigar itself has a dark brown color that is appealing. The wrapper has a bit of oil, and a few minor veins are visible. The cigar feels very firm to the touch and has a good amount of weight to it. It is also a tad lumpy here and there. Other than that, there are no real imperfections to point out. The pre-light aroma is chocolaty, while the cold taste is spicy.
Lighting the Oliva Inferno Robusto takes a bit of work, but once it finally gets going, it is mostly smooth sailing. The draw is good once it loosens up. There’s a decent amount of smoke as well. The gray ash is solid. The burn stays even from beginning to end, and no re-lights are necessary. I love maintenance-free smokes, and this is certainly one of them.
The flavor department is where the Oliva Inferno Robusto really shines. Yes, it is powerful, but that does not mean it lacks complexity. The cigar kicks off with a blast of spicy pepper that lives up to its Inferno name. This blends in with some coffee and cedar. We are definitely full-bodied right off the bat. The spicy pepper continues into the second third, until it’s taken over by delicious chocolate and sweetness. The final third offers more pepper, but this time around it is milder than the first two thirds. Some more sweetness rounds things out.
I have to admit, the Oliva Inferno Robusto was very impressive. The complexity was really enjoyable, and it absolutely lived up to its bold label. If you enjoy Oliva cigars, or are looking for something full-bodied and flavorful, give this stogie a strong look. It comes in packs of five or boxes of 20, with a single selling for around $4 to $5 each. You can find it as an exclusive offering from Famous Smoke Shop.
The Oliva Inferno Robusto earns a rating of 3.5 out of four stars.
