Having a glance at the La Palina Classic, the most visible physical aspect of the cigar is its silky wrapper. The wrapper has a nice light brown color and is smooth with some medium veins running through its body. I notice no soft spots as I give the Classic a press. A very simple band is near the head of the cigar that displays the La Palina Classic name with a light color scheme that matches the wrapper nicely. Preceding lighting, the cigar has a sweet aroma and a cold taste that is a mixture of earth and spice.
Once sparked, the La Palina Classic displays a perfect burn. The draw is fantastic and the burn is even and requires no touch-ups. A sturdy light gray ash is produced. There's a lot of cool smoke and the cigar stays lit without the need for re-lights.
The flavors experienced when smoking the La Palina Classic are good overall and most definitely smooth. The cigar's major flavor is sweetness, which seems to linger throughout. The first third offers up some spice as a contrast, and this continues into the second third. Earth and grass are also noticed near the halfway point. The final third is a blend of wood, sweetness, and more earth.
Once all is said and done, I can easily say that the La Palina Classic Toro is a solid cigar. The construction was good and so was the burn in all aspects. The flavor was not overly complex, but I enjoyed what was offered. This is a good cigar for experienced or beginning smokers who want something smooth and pleasant. At around $7 each, the Classic is not cheap, but you are getting a good quality cigar in return, so pick up a single and give it a try. You can also find it in packs of five or boxes of 20.
The La Palina Classic Toro earns a rating of 3.5 out of four stars.
