padronpadron family reserve no. 85 maduro

Just as I had hoped, the Padron Family Reserve No. 85 Maduro does offer some great flavor.  The first third is characterized notes that are sweet, spicy, and earthy.  The spice is not overbearing at all, but it does let you know it’s there.  The second third seems to get a bit stronger with the spicy kick, but also introduces some chocolate and coffee.  The final third transitions into sweetness, nuts, and more chocolate.  The cigar does have some kick to it, but it’s not all about strength, as the complexity is very enjoyable as well.

I can’t say that I was disappointed with any aspect of the Padron Family Reserve No. 85 Maduro.  The cigar was very eye-catching in terms of its appearance and presentation, and its construction and flavors were superb too.  At $20 per single, this is definitely a cigar for special occasions.  If you feel like splurging, however, pick up a box of ten.  You won’t regret it.

The Padron Family Reserve No. 85 Maduro earns a rating of four out of four stars.

El Baton Belicoso

alt

J.C. Newman Cigar Company reintroduced its El Baton brand and made it better than ever.  With a slogan of “Mucho flavor, little dinero,” El Baton promises a great smoking experience that won’t break the bank.  They apparently deliver on this promise, as El Baton has gained some very high ratings from around the industry.  I love great cigars, but I love great cigars that are affordable even more.  Does the El Baton Belicoso make the cut?  Let’s see.

The El Baton Belicoso measures 5 x 56.  Other sizes in the line include the 5 x 54 Robusto, 6 x 60 Double Toro, and the 6 3/4 x 54 Double Torpedo.  The cigar is a Nicaraguan puro that is highlighted by its Corojo wrapper.  Described as a bold cigar, the El Baton Belicoso is listed as being full-bodied in strength.
