When we went looking for a very inexpensive cigar for this month's staff review, the thought was that a lower priced Padron would do our readers a service.
It's hard not to review the Padron Anniversario line, and of course the Millennium Anniversario if your lucky enough to get them. In fact the 2000, 3000, and now 4000 cigars from Padron seem to get stellar reviews whenever you see them mentioned. So when we went looking for a very inexpensive cigar for this month's staff review, the thought was that a lower priced Padron would do our readers a service.
The Padron Londres is dirt-cheap. You can buy a box on the Internet for less than $50 for a box of 25. That's less than $2 a cigar for those mathematically challenged. In today's cigar world, that's cheap. Did we mention dirt-cheap?
So why the double usage of the adjective "dirt" when describing this cigar? Sad to say it was the most common term when folks were responding to the taste of the Padron Londres. It got even harsher, with quotes like "It tasted like a ol' cheap dirty stick" and "I had to take the Padron label off to stop from crying." At least our reviewers haven't reverted to the CA like, and described it as "lightly wetted Napa Valley dirt". Unfortunately, this was one of the first cigars that all five reviewers answered the question: "Would you have another", with a resounding "No".
The flavor was stronger than expected from such a small cigar, and lasted for quite some time in the mouth. One plus was no matter what a reviewer thought of the taste; it was noted as staying consistent throughout.
One has to wonder if maybe we got a bad box of Londres, as the construction was less than desired as well. Burnt quick, and usually uneven, but was a beautiful shade of gray. You gotta look for the positive they say.
We'd like to write this review up as a fluke, primarily out of our respect for the Padron family and their undisputed dedication to quality. As always the final say is up to you, and for the price of the Padron Londres, it doesn't break the bank to try one.
