Let's call this the "new" Por Larranaga. Let's call this the "new" Por Larranaga. We'll also call it by it's given name "Torpedo", even though this looks more like a Pyramid than anything we've ever seen. In the band department, this cigar scores high marks, the dual band helps signify that this is one of the Por Larranaga's that is enveloped in the ever vaunted Nicaraguan Habana 2000 wrapper. We haven't seen many cigars pass through here where the reviewers thought much of the Habana 2000, but, it's worth another shot. A smooth, creamy wrapper is the first thing you'll notice. Makes one believe this guy would age nicely as well. Nicely uniform, and seemingly well rolled, you can't go wrong staring at this trumpet. The Por Larranaga got okay marks on construction. Although a bit soft too the touch, especially around the wider areas of the cigar. The ash didn't stay around long, the draw remained consistent, never letting the cigar burn hot. Personally I think the liberal draw was due too the softness of the roll. "Different than other Dominicans" was a comment we heard over and over. A couple of the reviewers saw a complex taste, while the only thing complex noticed by others was trying to get the aftertaste out of their mouth. There wasn't much middle ground with this cigar, either you generally liked the taste, or you were ready too toss this puppy to the wind. Maybe it's the Habana 2000 wrapper, maybe it's the unique flavor of this cigar, or maybe it's the full moon. Habana 2000 ain't knocking 'em dead like we heard it would. We can't help you much in determining if this is worth trying. The reviews varied so much that it wouldn't be fair classifying one way or the other. The highest individual review the Por Larranaga got was a B+, while it pulled in a couple D-'s. Sorry for the lack of help, all we can do is average the ratings for this one, and let you decide. Vital Statistics: Shape = Torpedo Length = 7" RG =52 Wrapper = H2000 Filler = Brazil, Nic., DR Binder =Brazil, Nic., DR Estimated Cost = $ 5.25
