litThis episode we take a peek at the Corona’s bigger cousin, the Corona Gordas, a popular cigar that is only getting more and more popular every month. The Corona Gordas goes by many names, the toro and belicoso among them, and is a nice social cigar. Typically boasting a size of 5 5/8 x 46, they are a nice sized cigar. Today we will be looking at the following cigars: Defiance by Xikar The Guardian, ITC 10th Anniversary Toro, C.A.O MX2 Gordo, and the C.A.O LX2 Toro.

This type of cigar ranks up their among my favorites. Bigger than the Corona, thee guys pack a lot of punch. Overall, this batch was pretty good (otherwise I probably wouldn’t bother writing about them!). As always, every cigar on the list is in the upper 80’s to lower 90’s, based on a ranking scale of 50-100. So, without further ado, first up is a defiant cigar from the Honduras, the Defiance by Xikar.

Defiance by Xikar The Guardian

Being a writer, one of my favorite things about cigars are the names people choose. Defiance by Xikar the Guardian is one of those that beg to be Googled, promising a good tale, and you might want to do so. Or you can just read what I have to say here.

Xikar is a cigar accessory company, who came up with the “defiance” line as a way to combat negative legislature in the tobacco world. Each box sold earns a 5% donation to whichever municipality the box was sold in. Those funds, in turn, are used to help pay for court fees and the lobbying of government officials. And probably a cigar or two.

There are four cigars in the line, but today we’re only going to look at one: The Guardian. Made by the able hands of Jesus Fuego, this cigar is more than just a gimmick. With a binder and wrapper out of Nicaragua and the filler a mix of Nicaraguan and Hondurian tobacco, this cigar has a nice sweet tea flavor emboldened by a toasty, rich caramel. With a pleasant aroma of thick leather, and a dark wrapper, this bad boy is a treat for all the senses. I defy you not to like it.

Overall, this is a good one, a definite keeper for more than just the support it gives the tobacco community. If you like a pleasant taste, a smooth draw, and an underlying sense of purpose, this one is for you.

A belicoso is a figurado. They are more like the little cousins (although beli sizes vary, and actually they are more like the red-headed stepchild) of a torpedo--no relation to a corona gorda except they are both cigars.

These are all toros (or bigger!). None of these cigars are corona gordas.
