Welcome back to another round of cigar reviews by the good folks at Puff. In this article we are going to take a look at a cigar that is short in stature, but proves that great things truly do come in little packages. We’ll be looking at the following cigars: the Diamond Crown Maduro, Hoyo Monterrey Excalibur Legend Challenger, Petrus Prestige Robusto,

and the Don Lino 1989 Maduro Robusto.

Robustos don’t have the same place in my heart as Churchills do, but I still smoke them and quite a few are on my “favorite cigars” list. Keeping that in mind, this batch was pretty solid. Every cigar on the list is in the upper 80’s to lower 90’s, based on a ranking scale of 50-100. So, without further ado, first up at bat is a cigar from the Dominican Republic, the Diamond Crown Maduro.

The Diamond Crown Maduro

You can’t argue with the House of Fuente when it comes to cigars. Steeped in rich tradition, some of the finest cigars in the world come from their expert hands. You’ll notice their name on my lists quite frequently, and probably on many others as well. There are five types of Diamond Crown Maduro’s, and while I have tried three of them, my favorite is the No. 5, which I am discussing here.

Made from filler and binder straight out of the Dominican, this cigar is encased in a dark, shiny Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper that is smooth to the touch. Expect creamy flavors of coriander and licorice and an unexpected warmth that rolls in the mouth like sunshine at the end of a long Winter. The draw on this cigar is pretty smooth and I could not find a whole lot to complain about overall.
