The long distance runner of cigars has been found! After reviewing as many cigars as we have, you think you've seen it all; it's refreshing to be surprised.
The long distance runner of cigars has been found! After reviewing as many cigars as we have, you think you've seen it all; it's refreshing to be surprised. The Ramon Allones Specially Selected Robusto has got to be the longest burning robusto we have experienced. Couple the length this little guy burned with a supremely consistent and strong without being spicy flavor, and you have got a winner.
The first thing you think of when handling this robusto is quality. A beautifully solid cigar, with clean crisp lines, and an appealing wrapper, you're counting on a winner. The cigar looks like it is trying to burst its band. We can't pinpoint any additional specifics, other than to say all reviewers thought this cigar was going to be "Special". (Sorry about the cheap pun…)
Now that we have established our drooling tendencies over this beauty, we would be less than judicious if we didn't mention the singular fault that will keep this from being an "A+" rated cigar, and was extensive enough to almost drop it out of the "A" category. Keep your lighters at hand, as the relight count exceeded 4 on a couple of the samples tested. We looked for other reasons for this, but humidification was excellent, having been in our temperature and humidity controlled humidor for over 5 months prior to sampling. What we may have is too tight of a roll, which would account for the long burn, occasional tunneling, and the relights we ran in to.
That being said, if you throw out construction (tough to do) you have a cigar that exceeded expectations in all areas.
Flavor was amazing. For those of you that like a stronger cigar without the spicy overtones you can get in strong cigars along the lines of the Opus X and Ashton VSG line, you'll treasure the Ramon Allones Specially Selected. Another fresh aspect of this cigar was the consistency of the flavor. Staying the same for, not just the majority, but the entire cigar! You'll be burning your fingers and still have the same enjoyable strong without attacking flavor.
Combine the flavor, length of smoke, and consistency of the Ramon Allones Specially Selected, and you have a cigar that will be a winner in almost everybody's book. Like a 270 pound Dante Culpepper quarterback, this is a desirable package with both bulk and finesse. Draft it if you can.
