I have a big mouth. There is no denying it, and I am not even going to try. In fact, if you asked any of my friends, they would support the assertion that I have a big mouth. With that fact established, why can’t I get into the Nub line of cigars like most people?
When Nub first came out it seemed like a gimmick, but in actuality had some darn good cigars. For that reason I sit here giving Nub another shot, this time with the Nub Maduro 460 cigar. Like most Nubs, this Sam Leccia creation is true to its name with a size of 4 x 60. Really…60 ring gauge? Do we really need that? Oh wait, I forgot, I am uniquely designed for this smoke, as I have the mouth to do it justice!
Most folks know the story of Nub Cigars. They are the brainchild of Sam Leccia. Mr. Leccia believed that the best part of the cigar was the middle, and he wanted to create a smoke where all you got was the best part. I may be paraphrasing a bit, but I am capturing the meat - or perhaps “nub” of the story. Well Mr. Leccia convinced the Oliva family of his theory, and the rest is history. Amazing though that with all the years the Oliva’s have spent in the cigar world that they never thought of this. I guess we all needed Mr. Leccia’s innovative tobacco mind to prove to us that this large ring gauge style would soften these meaty flavors he wanted to include.
The Nub Maduro has the same sizes as the other lines, but is wrapped in a Brazilian Maduro blanket surrounding Nicaraguan binder and filler. The Nub Maduro 460 retails for around 6 bucks a smoke, but we’ll get to that later, as one of the claims to fame is the extensive length of smoke you get from such a small cigar.
