winston churchill 10

winstonchurchill10pic1Hello everyone!  Today let’s take a look at the Winston Churchill No. 10 from Davidoff and the Don Pepin Garcia Blue Label Fundadores.

Winston Churchill No. 10

The Winston Churchill No. 10 is a tribute cigar made in honor of, you guessed it, Sir Winston Churchill.  Of course what better company to hold the honor of making such a stogie dedicated to a historical icon and cigar aficionado than a tobacco leader like Davidoff.  The manufacturer received permission to issue this tribute line of cigars from Churchill’s grandson, Winston S. Churchill, who collaborated with Davidoff’s chief cigar blender Henke Kelner on the project.  The Winston Churchill No. 10 is one of the first cigar’s from the company that does not use the Davidoff name.  There are four different cigars that make up the Winston Churchill line, all hand-rolled at the Davidoff factory in the Dominican Republic, and each is named for places that were special to the leader.  The No. 10 in this case refers to the address of 10 Downing Street in London, where, since 1730, British leaders have called home.  During the German bombing raids in World War II, Churchill is said to have continued working at 10 Downing Street despite the widespread safety concerns.

The Winston Churchill No. 10 measures 5.25 x 52.  It has a unique blend of tobacco from Peru, Nicaragua, and the Dominican Republic, and Davidoff swears that its highly complex blends for the Winston Churchill line produce both a scent and flavor that stand apart from most other cigars with Dominican tobacco blends.  The No. 10 has an exclusive Ecuadorian Sungrown wrapper and a binder from the Dominican Republic.

Physically speaking, the Winston Churchill No. 10 is very easy on the eyes.  It has two bands that are sure to catch the eyes of most bystanders.  The band closest to the head of the cigar bears the Churchill family coat of arms while the second, thinner band bears the No. 10 name of the cigar.  Both bands are a rich red color highlighted with gold markings.  The Ecuadorian Sungrown wrapper gives the cigar a rich, somewhat darker color.  The texture of the cigar is smooth overall despite some large veins present.  A quick whiff and taste of the cigar unlit gives off some notions of sweetness.
