Hello again aficionados!  Today let’s sneak a peek at two selections from the revered Montecristo brand:  the Luxury Sevens and the Vino Series Cabernet Robusto.  Let’s first take a quick glance at the company behind the famous Montecristo name. Even if you are not an experienced aficionado, it’s highly likely you’ve heard of the Montecristo name somewhere.  Since it’s birth in Cuba in 1935, Montecristo is a cigar industry icon that has been producing handmade premium cigars that are enjoyed worldwide.  The brand supposedly got its name from the 19th century novel The Count of Monte Cristo, which became a favorite among many factory workers who had it read to them as they worked.  It is said that Montecristo has set the standard by which many cigars are judged.

Montecristo Luxury Sevens

The Luxury Sevens line from Montecristo is a limited edition cigar from the tobacco giant that is dedicated to the people that make the magic happen: the torcedores, or professional cigar rollers.  Montecristo Luxury Sevens are handmade by only the top torcedores from the Menendez and Garcia division of the Tabacalera de Garcia in La Romana, Dominican Republic.  The top torcedores work in teams of two to create the cigars.  The first torcedor concentrates on the construction of the binder and filler of the cigar and the second handles the wrapping process.  These expert torcedores, along with the heavily inspected components they use to make the cigars are given a special “Level 7” designation.  Thus, the number seven in the cigar’s moniker is a dedication to these masters of their craft.

The Montecristo Luxury Sevens is limited to one size: a 7x50 Churchill.  Its filler is a blend of tobacco from Brazil and the Dominican Republic.  The binder comes from the Dominican Republic as well.  The cigar is finished off with an Ecuadorian-grown Sumatra-seed wrapper.  It is considered to have a medium-bodied profile.

Just by looking at it, you can tell that the Luxury Sevens is a premium cigar.  A lot of effort was put into its presentation, as evidenced by the cedar sheath that it comes in that has “Se7en” printed on it vertically in large, black lettering as well as a yellow, gold, and red band at the foot that displays the Montecristo logo.  There is a decorative band near the head that is gold, red, yellow, and black in color and displays the Montecristo Sevens title in classy font along with the number 7 below.  Removing the sheath reveals the cigar’s attractive wrapper as well as another band identical to the one near the head.  The wrapper has a rich, dark color with some veins running throughout and a slightly oily sheen.  Prior to lighting, the cigar has an earthy scent and a sweet flavor.
