The first thing you are likely to notice when looking at the Cabernet Robusto is its squared-off shape, as it is a box-pressed cigar. The Mexican Moron wrapper gives it a dark, rich look and you can see a few noticeable veins. There are two decorative bands present that add to it’s aesthetic value. Both have a reddish color that matches the cigar’s Cabernet theme. The band near the head bears the Montecristo name in white lettering with some decorative patterns. The band right below it bears the Vino Series Cabernet label. Before lighting it up, some fruit is detected in both the scent and cold taste of the cigar.

The Cabernet Robusto smokes very evenly without the need for touchups. The draw is a bit tight but you do get a nice, solid ash. The flavors experienced while smoking are diverse and pleasant. You get some nutty flavors right off the bat that are joined by a steady amount of sweet fruit notes. Some cedar is noticeable too, and coffee flavors become present. Towards the end you can notice some rich chocolate flavor.
I have to say that this is a very enjoyable smoke. The burn is solid, and the flavors really tempt the palate. You can pick up a single for around $10, and they also come in boxes of 20. While its price may prevent some from smoking it frequently, it’s definitely worth your time to pick up for a special occasion at least, especially if you are a Montecristo fan or enjoy full-bodied sticks. For its great flavor the Montecristo Vino Series Cabernet gets 3.5 out of 4 stars.
I hope you enjoyed my review of these two offerings from Montecristo. Until next time….
