The Air Bender Matatan is an attractive stick. It has a large band near the head that really stands out and adds to its overall look. The band features the La Flor Dominicana logo and name, as well as the Air Bender label. An elegant color scheme of red, black, and gold coat the band. The cigar itself is a bit dark. It does not have much of an oily sheen, and there are very few veins that are visible. One thing that is very apparent is that this is one cigar that is very firm and packed tightly. Prior to lighting it has a cold taste of molasses and a sweet scent.

Once lit, the burn of the Matatan is somewhat of a mixed bag. The draw is surprisingly good despite the fact that the cigar felt hard as a rock during the pre-light inspection. It produces nice ash that is white and solid as well. There are no re-lights needed, but the burn does tend to stray a bit so it does need to be touched up at times.
The flavors experienced while smoking the Matatan are enjoyable. Right off the bat there is a good amount of spice. Eventually there are notes of wood that appear as well. A sweet flavor enters the picture, and a flavor that resembles fruit is also noted. The Matatan does seem to fit its full-bodied label well.
The Air Bender Matatan is not a bad cigar at all. Despite being hard as a rock, it offered a good draw and its burn was decent despite the occasional touch-ups. The flavors pass the test as well. A beginning smoker would probably find this cigar to be too harsh, and the same holds true for those who love mild cigars. Experienced full-bodied followers might find it right up their alley, however. A single Matatan sells for $7, and it also comes in boxes of 20. I'd say it is at least worth a single purchase. Who knows, you might enjoy it and get a box.
The La Flor Dominicana Air Bender Matatan receives a score of 3 out of 4 stars.
