ashtonbenchmadepic1Today's sticks set to pamper your palate are the Ashton Benchmade and the Avalon Masters Series Honeyboy Edwards Lancero. Let's get straight to the action, shall we?

Ashton Benchmade

In case you did not already know, Ashton is one of the most respected cigar manufacturers both in the United States and across the world for their production of premium cigars. The Ashton Benchmade is a cigar made by the industry renowned master roller and blender who goes by the name of Don Pepin Garcia. The main selling point behind this stick is value. Although it is constructed from premium ingredients, its price is far from premium, making it a cigar that many can enjoy without emptying holes in their wallets. Who can really complain about a product that is high in quality and low in price? I know I can't! I'll discuss the price near the end of this review, but let's get started by discussing the cigar first.

The Ashton Benchmade measures 5x50 in its Robusto size. It also comes in four other sizes: the 5.5x54 Gordo, the 6x50 Toro, the 6.5x46 Cazadores, and the 7x50 Churchill. The Benchmade is a Nicaraguan puro, meaning it's made solely from Nicaraguan tobacco. The filler is composed of a blend of high-grade short and long Nicaraguan filler tobaccos. The binder is Nicaraguan, and the cigar is finished off with a Nicaraguan Sumatra seed wrapper. The Benchmade is said to have a medium-bodied profile and it is handmade in Nicaragua.

The first thing you notice when looking at the Ashton Benchmade is that its topped with a pigtail cap. The wrapper has a rich, dark color that is a tad oily under light. Some small veins run throughout the cigar's body as well. Patting the cigar down reveals an overall firmness with just a few soft spots. A large band near the head adds some extra aesthetic appeal to the stick. The band is brown, gold, and beige in color and sports the Benchmade name in the middle above a logo of hanging tobacco leaves. On the sides of the band the words “Importado” and “Hecho a Mano” are printed, which translate to “Imported” and “Handmade” in English. A pre-light whiff of the cigar reveals an earthy scent and it also has a spicy cold taste.
