Right off the bat, you could say that the Azteca Jaguar looks as intimidating as the animal it represents. It has a very dark wrapper and just appears as if it was built for power. The cigar does appear to be constructed very well, however. It has a few small veins and an oily sheen. To the touch, the Jaguar feels very firm. There are two decorative bands. The large band near the head displays the Gran Habano Azteca name printed on a large, native design. The smaller band near the foot displays the Jaguar name in large font. Both bands have black, red, gold, and green colors that represent the Aztec theme well. Just prior to lighting, the Jaguar has a sweet cold taste and a scent of compost.
The burn of the Jaguar is satisfactory, but not perfect. It does need a few touch-ups here and there. Its draw is good, and it produces very long ash that is dark gray in color.
Gran Habano did a great job with the Azteca Jaguar in the flavor department. There is plenty of complexity to be enjoyed. The cigar begins with a rich chocolate flavor, which later transitions to leather and coffee. Some distinct wood then comes through, and it is finished off with pleasant hints of cherry and nuts.
The Azteca Jaguar's flavors made it a hit. There is never a dull moment when smoking this stogie. It was also attractive and enticing with a solid burn. Best of all, the Azteca Jaguar is affordable. A single retails for $6.60, which is reasonable considering just how good the cigar is. Although it has plenty of flavor, it does not overpower you either. That's not to say it is a weakling in any sense of the word, so both beginners and experienced smokers should give it a shot.
The Gran Habano Azteca Jaguar earns a rating of 3.5 out of four stars.
