Today is review day and we have a couple of quality smokes to take a look at. The semi-costly Camacho Liberty 2009 will be up first, and the critically acclaimed Don Pepin Garcia My Father No. 1 Robusto is on deck.
Camacho Liberty 2009
The 2009 edition of the Liberty line from Camacho continued the summer tradition by Camacho of releasing a new Liberty each year since 2002. The 2009 was created with the hopes of garnering the same acclaim as its popular 2005 release. To do so, Christian Eiroa created the blend himself using high quality tobaccos. The 2009 is a limited edition, with only 40,000 cigars produced in total.
The Camacho Liberty 2009 measures 6 x 56. The cigar features a filler and binder that are composed of Honduran Corojo tobacco grown in the Central American nation's fertile Jamastran Valley on Julio Eiroa's farm. A special Habano wrapper coats its exterior. The tobacco used for the wrapper is of note, since it is the first Habano crop used by Camacho. The limited numbers of the Liberty 2009 were actually rolled in 2007, and the cigars were aged two years prior to being released for public consumption. In terms of strength, the Liberty 2009 is said to fall somewhere between the categories of medium and full-bodied.
The presentation of the Liberty 2009 is quite impressive. Each cigar comes packaged in its own small wooden coffin. The black coffin with gold accents is a nice touch and really gives off the aura that you are about to smoke a special, limited edition cigar. Opening the coffin reveals the cigar itself, which is wrapped in tissue paper. The cigar's Habano wrapper is dark brown and has a slight sheen of oil. A few veins are noticeable, and it feels a bit soft to the touch. A couple of decorative bands grace the 2009's body. A large band near the head displays the Camacho logo in gold and black and a smaller band near the foot boasts the Liberty 2009 label. Prior to lighting, the cold taste is somewhat spicy, while scent given off is of cedar.
